The development of the Danube Lacrosse Conference:
2003-2006
2007
The Danube Lacrosse Conference is an independent, autonomous, and the first international lacrosse-league for young newcomer clubs in Europe! Its concept was drawn up in fall of the year 2003 by the Vienna Monarchs and Bratislava Tricksters, and founded on the 11th January 2004 with the motto "Games without Frontiers" by Chris Mistelbauer & Mark Lichtner! >>
Mister Peter Mundy himself, the president of the ELF (European Lacrosse Federation) visited us in Vienna on 2nd March 2004, to congratulate us on the founding of the DLC. >>
The very first DLC-gamedays started on 23rd May 2004 in Vienna. Gamedays are one-day-tournaments at one team’s home base where the DLC-teams meet (Saturday/Sunday) to play against each other. This way, a maximum number of games at minimum costs can be played.
On 20th November 2004 the first annual DLC-meeting took place at the Vienna Hilton Hotel. The five DLC-teams met to ratify the Agenda 2005>>, and to take the final step to create an internationally recognized lacrosse league. Furthermore we discussed together with Mr. Peter Mundy, who had come to Vienna, the further development, future strategic orientation, Referee camps and the participation in tournaments. >>
On 27th Feb 2005 the first 18 DLC-players participated in the 1st DLC referee course, which had been initiated by Peter Mundy, organized by Mark Lichtner and held by Graham Lester (GB), David Vortel (CZ) and Andreas Rossband (GER). “Independence through the league’s own referees” was the motto of the event. All participants were awarded the certificate of "Lacrosse Referee White Level".
On 19th November 2005 the second annual DLC-meeting was held in Bratislava. The teams of the DLC 2006 did not only agree on the Agenda 2006, but also decided to adapt the playing system for the first time in the league’s history. The old 1+5 system was replaced by the new "1+7" system and 4x12 minutes, and represents the largest step towards the international "1+9" (FullField) system! >>
On
18th November 2006 the
third annual DLC-meeting
was switched from Passau
to Vienna. The "1+7" system
of 2007 was upgraded to an inventive and special
"DLC 1+7 PLUS" system.
Due to the increased number of tournaments and national championships and to
shorten the distances between the DLC-teams, the League was regionally re-structured into the
DLC-North
and the DLC-South
.
We hope that in the next few years even more cities besides Vienna, Bratislava, Passau, Ljubljana, Graz and Villach (=Teams 2007) are going to join the league from neighbour countries like Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Hungary or even Poland!
